Cameron Diaz is a fan, and High School Musical’s Ashley Tisdale even bought Zac Efron one for his 21st birthday, now Fitness First is bringing the latest US fitness craze the Indo Board Balance Trainer to the UK.

The balance based workout, which experts claim can be mastered in just 15 minutes, features a wooden board balanced on a cylinder roller which provides a multi-functional workout focusing on the core muscles, leg strength and of course balance co-ordination.  

Invented by a surfer and in perfect time for a summer work out shake up, the large surface area of the Indo deck provides maximum stability while the Indo rider uses their sense of balance to manoeuvre the board over the roller in a controlled manner.

The balance trainer is a superb cross training workout appealing in particular as a valuable training tool for sports such as surfing, wakeboarding, skiing, snowboarding and skateboarding.  And with the launch of Europe’s first artificial surf reef due to open in September 2009 in nearby Boscombe, water babies will be taking advantage of the classes in training for when the reef officially opens.

Round one of the British Stand Up Paddle Association 2009 contest series was held at West Wittering beach over the May bank holiday weekend. The event is part of four contest series held in the UK to find the best stand up paddle surfers in both surfing waves and distance races.
